Make Touchpad (of Dell )working in Ubuntu If it Stopped Working

I faced this problem. Touchpad of my Dell Laptop was working in Windows 7 but not in Ubuntu 12.04 . I gave the following commands and it started working.

1. Become root.

$sudo -s

2. Give your laptop password.

Then give the following two commands.

In these, first command is  removing psmouse (/lib/modules/3.2.0-27-generic-pae/kernel/drivers/input/mouse/psmouse.ko

#modprobe -r psmouse
#modprobe psmouse proto=imps

To make this change permanent, create a file such as touchpad.conf under /etc/modprobe.d/, and put the following line in it:

options psmouse proto=imps

Thats all 🙂
